Neurosurgery = Spinal Surgery

Monday, July 6, 2009 ·

Lately, I was fortunate enough to set up a shadow with a prominent neurosurgeon in the Sioux Falls area. Today during his clinic, I was greatly surprised by the amount of spinal cases a neurosurgeon sees.

I guess my original idea about what neurosurgeons did was a little off. I assumed with orthopedic spine specialist in existence that neurosurgeons would mostly deal with brain cases, a little spine, and the occasional peripheral nerve case. The doctor I am following stated that he probably saw 60% spine cases in this area.
